Parents should have seen the disclosure and read through parts of the web page that will help you along this journey.
Please ask your child for this if you have not seen it.
I have been teaching orchestra for 19 years, and I know a few things to be absolutely true. I hope you will consider these as we progress through the year:
1. Any student who practices consistently at home will make progress, regardless of background or ability.
2. Parents are smart, and sometimes we will tell our children they need to stick it out, even when they don't want to. We are the adults, so kids, you need to listen when we tell you, "You need to stick to your commitments" You will be better people for it later in life!
3. Playing an instrument has been documented to improve overall attendance, grades and retention in school. It fosters creativity, team work and the ability to work hard for extended periods of time. These are the traits that future employers will be looking for. They are the traits of the successful. Try....try again....and keep trying.
Thank you all for making the beginning of school so enjoyable. I am looking forward to a great school year!
